    The Northampton Fire Department and the Hampshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross

    have formed a partnership with local community service agencies and law enforcement to provide

    direct, individualized attention to the at risk youth in our counties.

                  Purpose

      Fire safety education that addresses inappropriate fire behavior and/or fire setting incidents.

      The program is educationally oriented with curriculum designed to respond to the developmental stages of

      children and youth between the ages of 3 - 17

      This community collaborations objective is to reduce fire incidents and fire setting activity and provide a safer

      environment for the county residents.

        Participating agencies are:

•         Police / Fire Departments
•         Franklin / Hampshire Juvenile Court Clinic                                                    
•         Department of Social Services
•         Department of Mental Health                                                
•         Department of Mental Retardation
•         Probation Office
•         School Departments
•         Housing Authority

         Program Content

•      Assessment screening interview
•         10 weeks, 1/2 hour per week
•         pretest & posttest conducted
•         Homework
•         Guardian involvement mandatory
•         Resources appropriate to age, abilities and situation
•         Certificates of completion
•         Follow up interviews at 3, 6 & 12 month intervals
